Heavenly Soldier
I had just got back from Florence, Italy where I had studied art for 5 weeks. I was itching to create and was inspired by the Renaissance masters. This piece references a sketch by Leonardo da Vinci titled, “Profile of a Warrior in Armor.” One of my favorite sketches by Leonardo. Other than that reference in my head, I created this from my imagination.
There is a layer of cloth and leather like material and then metal for the armor. I was inspired by the idea that maybe I could imagine what Heavenly armor would look like. The clothe that covers the temple of the soldier would be woven, scarlet, gold, and purple; like the tabernacle colors in the Old testament. And, the cloth running from behind the neck down past the shoulders would on one side, hold the color and designs on the cloth over his temple, but as it folds over, the other side would be straight white and blue stripes representing Jerusalem. I left it unfinished because I think it has a mysterious quality about it and something raw that I like about it.
